Love, Mom

I can get away with most anything
Watching you grow
Only I know
What is the best for my offspring

I can teach you how to ride your bike
Keeping you safe
In any place
Nothing will ever hurt my tyke

I can show you how to tie your shoes
Always learning
On your sojourning
Offering pathways for you to choose

I can teach you how to read and write
Stories and books galore
Look! A dinosaur
Time to play, let's have a pillowfight

I can teach you how to throw a ball
Not be a 'fraidy cat'
Swing the bat
Whether you win or lose, to stand tall

I can help you learn right from wrong
Always be true
True to you
This is how you grow up to be strong

I, and I alone, can lick a tissue wet
Dab it on your face
To your disgrace
Something you will never let me forget!

Nor would I ever want to...

Comma Karma

A comma here, a comma there,
I can attach a comma anywhere!
I seem to have quite a flair
For putting commas everywhere!

Right or wrong, I will find
A sentence that is unrefined,
And just to give me peace of mind,
I'll place a comma on its behind.

Colons and semicolons do not count,
No accent nor hyphen is tantamount!
As punctuation goes, by this account,
For me, only commas are paramount!

Some sentences, I fear, may never end,
Some thoughts I surely must extend;
While rules of comma I might bend,
Everyone will be able to comprehend.

I know that it has become my goal
To use the comma, to cajole, to extol,
And possibly even to gain control
Of an idea's very heart and soul.

I wonder if it is my Karma to go on
Growing commas long after I am gone?
This would be quite a phenomenon:
A Comma Karma Reincarnation Marathon!

Childhood Memories

I'm not certain
That I can remember
anything from that long ago!

So I'll refrain
from getting too tender
about times that you will never know!

Let's see...
television was fairly new,
I know that dates me somewhat right there!

Golly gee...
I remember Captain Kangaroo,
Romper Room, Howdy Doody, and Smokey Bear!

Does this mean
I should sit down right now
and rock away in a creaky rocking chair?

Not my scene
to end up wondering how
my days passed me by while I was so unaware!

I remember all,
and will share if you like,
anything I've learned, and I'll try not to lecture!

In ways small
or large, I've found we're all more alike
than we might care to leave to conjecture!

See how we old folks can ramble?
Life's a gamble!
I win...so far!

Fiddle Dee Dee

Scahlet, dahling, you had the right idea
Don't worry about today
There's time enough tomorrow
You'll always find a way
Out of your present sorrow
And if you skin your knee
Don't let your tears show
Just say 'fiddle dee dee'
Pick up your skirts and go

Scahlet, dahling, you knew all along
When troubles show their face
No need to lose your head
Just flaunt your style and grace
Then jump right into bed
For tomorrow will be carefree
Everything will work out fine
When you say 'fiddle dee dee'
The sun will always shine

Scahlet, dahling, you were very wise
When dark clouds came around
You chose to smile and dance
You knew you shouldn't frown
And not give wrinkles a chance
So with you I'll never disagree
I'll toss my hair and flounce away
And just say 'fiddle dee dee'
For tomorrow is another day
