Love, Mom

I can get away with most anything
Watching you grow
Only I know
What is the best for my offspring

I can teach you how to ride your bike
Keeping you safe
In any place
Nothing will ever hurt my tyke

I can show you how to tie your shoes
Always learning
On your sojourning
Offering pathways for you to choose

I can teach you how to read and write
Stories and books galore
Look! A dinosaur
Time to play, let's have a pillowfight

I can teach you how to throw a ball
Not be a 'fraidy cat'
Swing the bat
Whether you win or lose, to stand tall

I can help you learn right from wrong
Always be true
True to you
This is how you grow up to be strong

I, and I alone, can lick a tissue wet
Dab it on your face
To your disgrace
Something you will never let me forget!

Nor would I ever want to...
