Freight Train

Leaving this place and feeling down,
I'm taking a freight train out of town;
I don't care where it is bound:

Because I'm hitching this boxcar to the stars!

Running away isn't easy to do,
But I really need to get away from you;
Because you only make me blue:

And now I can stop hanging out in all of those bars!

Holding back, not tempting fate,
Maybe I should have decided to wait;
Instead of riding with this freight:

Then I wouldn't be sleeping in these stinking cattle cars!

The Ancient Ones

In between the shadow and the light,
I walk with those who formed the night;
Their Ancient Breath falls softly down
Upon my Spirit and gathers round,
Until I see their images faint,
Walking with me without constraint.
How can I see through the mists of time,
Unless I look with my heart and mind
Into the eyes of those who guide me,
Learning lessons which set me free.
Animal Spirits have taught me the way
To seek harmony in my life each day,
With knowledge and faith unsurpassed,
The Ancient Ones remain steadfast.

Rush Hour Rubáiyát
(With apologies to Omar Khayyam)

A scrap of toast,
the jelly jar is empty;
A glass of wine,
aren't jelly jars handy?
A glimpse of thou,
dashing out the door;
A glimpse of me,
mopping up the floor.
A hidden book,
beneath the bed;
Who says Playboy
is never read?
A song of love,
out on the porch;
Meet me tonight
by the Tiki torch.
Romance is not
dead and gone;
It’s only lying there
passed out on the lawn!

Here is the verse I adapted:

From: The Rubáiyát
By Omar Khayyam
Written 1120 A.C.E.

(Verse) XII
A Book of Verses underneath the Bough,
A Jug of Wine, a Loaf of Bread--and Thou
Beside me singing in the Wilderness--
Oh, Wilderness were Paradise enow!
