Distracted Rhyming

Embark on an idea,
Set sail for a destination;
Nothing can stop the voyage
Of my imagination.

Look! What do I see?
Something in the distance,
Something on the horizon,
A diversion to my very existence!

Drive on with a thought,
Speed up or slow down;
Heading to the finish line,
Yearning for renown.

Now what can it be
That is distracting me...
A word, a thought, a voice,
A long-forgotten memory?

Write on until the very end,
Let nothing interrupt the flow;
Bring this rhyme to its conclusion
So I can add it to my portfolio.

Fantasies

As a child
I mixed my fantasies
with the truths that I was taught

As an adult
I mix my truths
with fantasies nearly long forgot

As a child
I lived for the moment
to play, to feel, to go on forever

As an adult
I live in fear
afraid of change, of people, of never

As a child
something changed me
a truth that ended fantasies

As an adult
my choices harm me
reaping lifelong consequences

As a child
no one wanted to know
why I was losing control

As an adult
no one will ever know
why I can never be whole
