WHY WE LAUGHED

We laughed because we were happy;
how simple can it be?
Now we think before we laugh,
insecurely and tentatively.

We laughed because we were innocent,
not believing things could change.
But inevitably much was altered;
life became worrisome and strange.

We laughed because it was natural;
sunlight flowed within our veins.
How sad the moment when darkness came,
revealing truth within chilling rains.

I believe laughter will return,
bringing joy and wonder home to stay.
Memories will remind us of our youth,
while happiness leads the way.

CHANGE

I found you
You found me
How did we end up in such misery?

I loved you
You loved me
Now we only know how to disagree

I lost you
You lost me
Neither of us will ever be free

I cry for you
You cry for me
Sadness will be ours for eternity

I changed you
You changed me
Together we will never make history

DARK DAYS LIGHT

Once upon a dark day
Looking for a dream
Making little headway
I stumbled on a sunbeam

As the dark day fled
Where I had stubbed my toe
Blazing lights overhead
Soon caused the sky to glow

Waking from my fantasy
Confident in my plight
It's Daylight Saving time for me
I want my Dark Days Light

SHROUD

In the darkness of your world
a prism of light comes shining through
touching your heart and opening your eyes
to show you what truth has in store for you

In the world where you conceal your thoughts
there is a sound like the whisper of wings
brushing past so close you can feel
the breath that the passage of time brings

In that place covered by lies and deceit
you tell yourself that you are whole
smiling on the outside even as you sink below
the flawed surface which smothers your soul

In your make-believe world nothing ever changes
so you make the same mistakes time after time
reliving each failure yet unwilling to learn
how to cast off the darkness of a lifetime
