Where Would I Be...

Where would I be if I'd listened to me?
Let's see...

I wanted to be an airline stewardess,
In the days when women were used
To present an image to all of the world
As social creatures, yet intellectually excused.

I wanted to be an ice skater,
In the days where women could act
Like ethereal images from fairy tales,
While keeping opinions and ideas abstract.

I wanted to be a veterinarian,
In the days when women were still
Asked to be wives and mothers first,
While giving up dreams, talents, and free will.

I wanted to be the first female jockey,
In the days when women could only ride
In fancy shows or rodeos, even though
We were equally talented and highly qualified.

I wanted to have courage and strength,
In the days when women were finally free
To be educated and to think for themselves,
But, too late, I’d given up on all I could ever be...

All because I never learned how to just listen to me!

Drink The Water Immortal

Just a taste
One little sip
No undue haste
Betwixt my lips
A moment dies
A drop falls
A voice sighs
Destiny calls
The moon creeps
Day becomes night
The sun sleeps
A world in flight
Drink from me
Defy time
You must be
Forever mine

A New Kind Of Love
(For my Grandson, Braden)

Let me hold you, sweet one,
as I sing you to sleep;
Let me bring you mem'ries,
stories for you to keep.

Know that you are safe here,
bound by eternal love;
Know that you are guarded
by angels from above.

No one knows the future,
time binds each dream and plan;
No one knows your destiny,
clutched in each tiny hand.

We watch you change and grow,
day by day more aware;
We watch as you become
the answer to our prayer.

For Burke

Angel of Light
hovering so near
we just couldn't see you
until you were here
Child of the wind
a sweet fleeting breath
time's precious gift
has left us bereft
You gave us the hope
of a brighter tomorrow
wrapped in the memory
of your painful sorrow
A kiss and a touch
we wanted much more
as tears became prayers
for the child we adore
Angel of Light
hovering so near
thank you for visiting
you will always be here

Jaguar Of The West

If I wander the world over
You will always be near
Leading me, teaching me
To face any fear
To never pass judgement
Upon any other
Living in kindness
As sister and brother
Your Power is Integrity
You forgive my mistakes
Your Impeccable manner
Leaves dignity in its wake
You balance my Spirit
With honesty and devotion
Bestowing good Medicine
With forthright emotion
Jaguar is Love and Truth
My pathway personified
My conscience in life
My ever-patient guide
