In The Names Of God

One of the greatest Gifts
was given long ago
A Gift granted for us all
and sent to help us grow
Meant to teach everyone
about one another as we go
Upon the raging river
caught within its undertow
Inside the light above
transformed into a rainbow
The Gift is our Diversity
many differences that show
Varied faiths and cultures
in beautiful colors to overflow
Within children and families
we all should seek to know
Sharing life’s experiences
our pleasure and our woe
All differences have become
one loving Gift to bestow
In The Names of God
we share the same Perfect Glow

Rites of Passage

Now that the children have all gone back to school
the world seems somewhat larger...
Suddenly this universe has a few less rules
and more time to test the waters...

Breathing deeply and facing this profound realization
that time can seek its own continuum...
Makes it completely unnecessary for any explanation
or immediate solution to any outcome...

Eventually reality will return with its loving demands
energizing your gradually-shrinking sphere...
Recognizing time and space exists within each special hand
is what enlarges and expands your own frontiers...

Hesitation Highway

You meet me in the middle
You stop
I start
You come
I go

I meet someone new
Sometimes they move
Sometimes they stay
They hesitate
Afraid to commit
So I go away
Then they go
I stop
They stop

This dance goes on
Day after day
Night after night
Dangerous
Confusing
We all wait
For the light

No one understands
Or does their part
No one cares
No one notices
With hardly a glance
We drift and we dart

There must be a way
To make the choice
To dedicate our lives
To give us a voice
In all that happens
Within one small space

I feel the confusion
Of lights flashing red
In all four directions
For all that lies ahead
I do know the answer
To this dilemma
You see:

The powers that be
Must make the change
To Red
Yellow
And Green lights
At each intersection
And interchange

Leaf For Lunch Haiku

Oh no! Cicada!
I wait seventeen years for
Regeneration...

Intelligence

"Why! What an intelligent remark, I dare say!"
(Too bad the guy is such a geek!)
"No doubt he'll be terribly famous one day!"
(Too bad his chin is so weak!)

"Did you know he is wonderfully wealthy, as well?"
(Too bad he is so short and puny!)
"Don't you think his blue eyes are absolutely swell?"
(Too bad he needs glasses to see!)

"I've heard he's amazing *w* in more ways than one!"
(Intelligence can make up for a lot!)
"They say he makes love better and longer than anyone!"
(A man with a brain always did make me hot!)

Trains

Early morning traveler,
running down the tracks;
I can hear your whistle
echoing back to back.

Calling to the new day,
or home around the bend;
Telling us your stories
of distance without end.

The whistle sadly sounds
at daylight and nightfall;
For those who still wait
impatiently for the call.

The journey once begun,
reminds those who remain;
Time can only stand still
while you're riding on a train.
