Dancing in the shadows
a life less real
Daylight and starlight
have the same feel
Within dawn and dusk
are the places I dwell
Dancing in between
heaven and hell
When I was a child
fear held my hand
By loosening my grip
I found no man’s land
Living in the shadows
is a very safe place
Hidden from the eyes
of the human race
Pushed away by those
who wanted to forget
Raised without love
everyone’s regret
Paid for my silence
a handsome price
Constantly reminded
of their sacrifice
Forgotten in the void
a puppet on strings
Yearning to fly away
on shadowy wings
I didn’t think it possible
to still feel the pain
Unworthy of their love
but not of their disdain
It’s time to turn my back
on each and every one
So I dance in the shadows
cast by their setting sun
